Six #BudgetFriendly Honeymoon Destinations.
Updated: Oct 4, 2018
One of the absolute best wedding-related pieces of advice that I got throughout the entire wedding-planning process was from my father, and it was this:
Be sure you put just as much work, thought, and effort into planning your honeymoon as you do in planning your wedding.
While this might sound preposterous to some, my dad encouraged me (and wisely) to not allow the honeymoon planning to take a back seat when compared against wedding planning. He explained to me that the wedding is one day, and that it would be a blur of a memory no matter how many details were or were not included, but the honeymoon is a once in a lifetime chance at a week or more of time away from everything. This is a precious period where you can have zero responsibilities and just enjoy spending time with your brand new spouse.
While I’m 100% glad I put in the effort I did to wedding planning (mostly, I’m 100% glad my wedding coordinator put in the effort), I’m equally glad that I put in equal amounts of effort to planning the honeymoon.
Put aside any of your fantastical dreams and just look at the reality: this is an opportunity for you to go on an adventure to a dream destination with the person you love the most, and you may not get an opportunity like this ever again! So put effort in and make it a great memory!
If you’re struggling to get some travel inspiration, here are 5 amazing honeymoon destinations (in no particular order) that you can get to for perfectly reasonable prices.
Jamaica. Everybody likes a good beach for a honeymoon and Jamaica has some of the best. There are lots of deals you can find on Groupon for resorts, hotels, and more that will help keep your stay fairly inexpensive. Just find the right tickets and you can absolutely keep this trip within budget.
A Mountain Cabin. Some of us aren’t overly drawn to sand and ocean, so keep mountains and cozy little getaway spots in mind. No matter what mountain range is closest to you, you can always, always find a cabin to book for a week. Enjoy the hiking, other outdoor fun, and fireplaces.
Mexico. There are so many all-inclusive resorts that you can find in Mexico for perfectly acceptable prices. If you love the beach but you can’t make it to Hawaii (pricey, pricey, man), then give these beautiful beaches a try!
Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, The Bahamas, a cruise. (I totally get that these are four ideas in one, but that’s fine. They’re all beachy ideas and you can find great deals for them all over the place!) Plus, you don’t need a passport to go to Puerto Rico.
Road Trips. Seriously. If you plan them out, they don’t have to be expensive, and you can see a lot of the country at the same time. Try to check off as many states as you can, see the most interesting nearby-ish sites, eat iconic foods, and go to local events!
Iceland. While this isn’t your typical honeymoon destination, and should probably only be considered for late spring and summer dates, it’s one of the prettiest countries on the face of this earth. Gasoline and food are really expensive inside, but flights are really inexpensive if you get the right ones!
What is your dream honeymoon destination?
